BSCC met Wednesday for a motivating presentation by Greg
Constantine. His presentation titled Standing
Still had an interesting premise that black and white photography can be
more intense, keeping the viewer engaged. Black and white photography removes
all distractions, so the strength of the composition shines through. Ordinary
subjects can be made extraordinary when one learns to look for texture, shape,
patterns, and light. Greg suggests standing still long enough to see a great
photo come into view, wait for the cloud to move into position, a person
walking into an interesting view, the boat aligning with the moon. A good
discussion about what makes a photo work followed Greg's presentation.

Thank
you, Greg, for providing a new perspective on photography. Thanks to Jeff,
Madeline and Suzanne for providing the snacks.
Allowing for the maximum spiral, Greg positions the camera a just the right spot. |
