BSCC Flash News

Rob Shellhamer presented helpful information on flash photography for our January BSCC meeting. In a flash review, Rob suggests that the distance from subject to flash is important (Inverse Square Law). Subject and background lighting can be adjusted independently. ISO and Aperture will affect both subject and background lighting. Shutter speed will mostly affect background. Flash power and flash to subject distance will only affect subject lighting. There are all sorts of manual variables, but the TTL mode will take care of the flash power and adjust to subject distance for you. Rob believes experimenting on your own is the best practice.
Thanks to Cheryl for posing for our flash experiments and a BIG Thank You to Joni and Tim King for providing excellent snacks for the evening.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, February 5th at 7:00 p.m. in the Berrien Springs Community Library. This month is our competition meeting. Members can submit prints and/or digitals for scoring by three independent judges. The selected topics for the month include: 1) Patterns, and 2) Shadows, as well as the usual Portraits, Nature and Open categories
. Submission rules and guidelines are included elsewhere on this site.
All are welcome either to observe or to join. Anyone who wishes to join may submit photos to the competition, up to 10 projected images and/or 10 prints. Refreshments will be served.
